AIXP

Wondering what AIXP is?

AIXP is an IXP for Arusha City, it is a Tanzania Internet Service Providers Association (TISPA) project initially funded by Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA). The AIXP has been setup and is maintained by volunteers.

What is IX/IXP?

An Internet Exchange Point (IX or IXP) is a physical infrastructure that allows different Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) and sometimes companies with large networks to connect to each other and exchange local traffic between their networks by means of mutual peering agreements, which allow traffic to be exchanged at much faster speeds and reduces the cost of international routing.
So far there are Six ISP’s connected to AIXP. For more understanding please check the FAQ’s below or contact us, you may also want to visit AIXP’s website.

PEERS

The peers connected at AIXP are:

Habari Node PLC | CyberNet/Arusha Art | Raha Ltd | Milan Cable Networks | Simbanet Tanzania Ltd | Gadgetronix/Blink | Vodacom PLC | Tigo Tanzania Smile Communication Tanzania Ltd | Smart Tanzania Ltd | Halotel PLC | Airtel Tanzania PLC | PCH

MIXP

Mwanza IXP – MIXP

The Mwanza IXP was created in cooperation between TCRA and TISPA. It is operated by TISPA in order to provide a neutral peering point for IP networks in Mwanza, Tanzania. This does allow for local routing of Internet traffic in Mwanza, between network operators, via peering connections.

These will reduce the average per-bit delivery cost for Internet traffic and more importantly reduce latencies, increase available bandwidth and improve quality of service since traffic is routed locally.

History

Peering at MIXP started in June 2016, after obtaining numbering resources from AfriNIC at the end of May 2016.

Location & setup

The IXP is located at Barmedas Headend in Mwanza. MIXP is making use if the equipment supplied by TCRA, 2x Cisco Gigabit switches, a Cisco 2811 router and 3 Dell servers, along with rack, UPS and accessories.

Peers

The peers connected at MIXP are:

Tanzania Telecommunication Co.Ltd (TTCL) | Halotel PLC (Viettel Tanzania Ltd) | Airtel Tanzania PLC | Habari Node PLC | Raha Ltd | Simbanet Tanzania Ltd  SpiceNet Tanzania Ltd | Vodacom PLC | Tigo Tanzania PLC | CTV | Smile Communication | WiA Company Ltd.

Statistics

Traffic statistics are collected since November 2016 and show the following development:

This shows that traffic flows up to 3 Mbps (or short bursts even higher) are accommodated by MIXP. Information about Mwanza IXP (MIXP) is publicly available at https://www.tix.or.tz/mixp/ , which also includes the list of peers and aggregate traffic graphs.

DIXP

DIXP is a project of TISPA.

The Dodoma Internet Exchange Point (DIXP) is an Internet exchange point in Dodoma, at LAPF building. It is open to any network operator that believes that they can make their network more efficient through peering.

As a platform for settlement-free peering, DIXP allows the routing of intra-ISP traffic within Dodoma. All its participants are on an equal footing, which in turns means no traffic prioritization or filtering rules for specific participants. All exchange resources are equally available to all participants.

Halotel PLC | Airtel Tanzania PLC | Tanzania Telecommunication Co. Ltd (TTCL) | CATS NET Tanzania Ltd | Habari Node PLC | WIA Company Ltd

MBIXP is a project of TISPA.

The Mbeya Internet Exchange Point (MBIXP) is an Internet exchange point in Mbeya. It is open to any network operator that believes that they can make their network more efficient through peering.

MBIXP is located at Mbeya University of Science & Technology –(MUST) ( https://goo.gl/maps/cMYrgN4KibF2 )

As a platform for settlement-free peering, MBIXP allows the routing of intra-ISP traffic within Mbeya. All its participants are on an equal footing, which in turns means no traffic prioritization or filtering rules for specific participants. All exchange resources are equally available to all participants.

ZIXP

ZIXP is a project of TISPA.

The Zanzibar Internet Exchange Point (ZIXP) is an Internet exchange point in Zanzibar. It is open to any network operator that believes that they can make their network more efficient through peering.

ZIXP is located at Kilimani, Manara wa Mbao, the former Tritel building and current ComNet office (as well as Coconut FM).

As a platform for settlement-free peering, ZIXP allows the routing of intra-ISP traffic within Zanzibar. All its participants are on an equal footing, which in turns means no traffic prioritization or filtering rules for specific participants. All exchange resources are equally available to all participants.
